The new construction project, Residence “De Hessel,” is located in the center of Herselt and offers a perfect balance between peace and comfort. The apartments and the inner garden provide an oasis of tranquility, while the lively village center is just a stone’s throw away. All apartments are equipped with the BEN label, which stands for nearly energy-neutral. The goal is to minimize energy consumption and produce renewable energy.

Green oasis in the inner garden

The inner garden offers an atmospheric mix of grasses, various flowering plants, and characteristic trees. This is also reflected in the choice of facade cladding. The architectural firm Atrium chose the wooden facade cladding of LDCwood^® ThermoWood^® ayous. The wood has a rich color and smooth, even lines. Over time, it will gracefully turn grey.

Fire-Retardant ThermoWood^® Ayous

For medium-height buildings such as apartments, specific fire safety requirements apply. To meet these requirements, LDCwood^® ThermoWood^® ayous was treated with the natural fire retardant Burnblock^® by Lemahieu Fire Protection^®, achieving the required fire reaction class. The fire-retardant treatment with Burnblock^® is carried out under pressure in our autoclave. The fire retardant is 100% natural and biodegradable. Moreover, the product is Cradle-to-Cradle™ Gold certified. The fire-retardant treatment ensures the maintenance of the fire reaction class over time, so no re-treatment is necessary.
